I would buy another one, even if it is rather over-priced. But those are really just quibbles, it is a good unit. If pushed to rate the unit I would give it a 7.5 out of 10, I am watching for more updates from Kenwood and/or Garmin. So, it has some bugs, it works really well though and it's NAV unit is pure Garmin GPS which for me is it's best feature. It is very controllable and like most interfaces, it will require some time to get used to how it works. You will need them as you can change things to the point where it is difficult to get back to default settings. The deck also has a pretty good default user interface however I suggest you get the manuals in PDF form and print them so that the books can live in the truck. The deck can display pictures from a camera, should you want to and you can even set a few images as background pictures for certain functions. ![]() Overall, this is the best handsfree phone stuff I have seen or used. Sometimes the Bluetooth connection is a bit cranky at re-connecting, but that is unusual. I do not use IPOD or satellite radio so cannot comment on either although support for both is there, particularly certain IPODs.īluetooth works very well synchronizing with my Instinct cel phone and giving really clear full-duplex voice services. A better antennae might help but that's not something I am too concerned with. The tuner works quite well but I have noticed a little more multi-path distortion than with OEM deck, however it sounds much better and is way better at dealing with a bunch of pre-set stations. Same goes for playing MP3's from DVD disks. Navigating many folders is a pain but doable, some care during setting up the memory key will aid here. The USB works as billed playing music from a memory key without much issue, my one problem here was a one-time problem where a song would start, then another would start before the first was finished. Some attention needs to be paid to resolution and such. DVD perfectly, and also plays anything converted to DVD spec files as well. The AV functions work pretty much as expected, I have found the video playback to be somewhat fussy about the video files I have tried to play. My experience was that these decks should NOT be shipped without the updates being applied, but marketing. The software interface that runs the deck worked ok but did suffer some glitches and bugs that means the update the Garmin offers is really needed. The deck still comes with 2008 version maps so that might be an issue for some but I won't be doing anything about this myself. that is, it works very well and for me is really the reason for buying. The Garmin GPS nav works pretty much as one would expect a Garmin NAV unit. The Kenwood actually makes the OEM door mount speakers sound not too bad, however I will eventually replace them with some better speakers. It fits in the dashboard perfectly, it connects without any major surgery and it certainly sounds better than the OEM/Radio unit does. After looking around and pondering my options, I decided the Kenwood Excelon DNX-8120 fit the bill better than anything else available to me.
